(08/01/2009) Grissom Names Richard Johnson As New Head Softball Coach and Whitney Smith As Assistant Softball Coach
Grissom High School has hired Coach Richard Johnson to head up the Lady Tiger softball program. Coach Johnson comes to us from Albertville High school, where
he served at the assistant varsity softball coach and head JV coach for the last
8 seasons. As an assistant, Coach Johnson helped bring Albertville High from
relative anonymity to a state tournament participant in just a few years. Coach
Johnson received his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education Math from Auburn
University and received his Masters Degree and Education Specialist Degree in
Administration from the University of Alabama. He was also a walk-on player on
the 1988 and 1989 Auburn Tiger football teams. At Grissom, Coach Johnson will teach math and will also be an assistant football coach.
Grissom has also hired Whitney Smith as Assistant Softball Coach. Coach Smith is a former softball player and 2004 graduate of Grissom and a 2008 graduate of Alabama A&M.
She brings a very strong softball background and an abundance of energy to the Lady Tigers softball program.
We are very excited about the addition of Coaches Johnson and Smith and welcome them to the Grissom softball family. The future looks very bright for Grissom Softball.

Extreme Makeover: Softball Edition
Written by Philip Sommers
Wednesday, 02 September 2009
(09/02/2009) Grissom Softball continues it's makeover with some facelifts to our field.
With the financial support of our County Commisioner Mo Brooks and with the
continued great support of Grissom principal Tom Drake, the coaches and boosters have begun a multi-phased effort to improve the softball facilities. The first step is to install a
new wall and backstop for the field. Painting and more field upgrades will begin
soon. Stay tuned ...
